I was last week called by a gentleman from my housing association about being decanted. I was very shocked and felt put on the spot and he was a bit taken a back why no one in my housing association had said anything. This is to do with an on going problem i have had for nearly 2 years to do with damp and mould in my property. So far i have now had 3 surveyors out and i have been asking continually for my housing to keep me informed of what is going on which time and tie again they do not. I was told by this guy my housing estates manager should have spoken to me well no one did. The property they wanted me to move to was to far from my children s school and i dont drive so i had to say no but also i have been told nothing about what repairs need doing. I spoke to the ombudsman who is also in shock as no one has informed her either about whats going on or the environmental health. All the manger of complains can say is that sh was off for a week and she passed it over to whomever to continue forward in her absence and they should have contacted me hmm pass the buck much!! What i want to know is should a housing association have a decant policy? What is involved in this? and can a decant be permanent? The reason i ask is yes i have had enough of all of this its been going on for to long but also they do not think about the effects and how my older daughter who is 5 gets affected. She hates change has been under pediatrician ,occu health ,speach n language etc. I have to prepare her and make sure it is managed well for her its just very up in the air and we are not happy at how its been going on.

Hi Dee,

I am really sorry to hear about your situation. The good news is that it seems the Housing Association are finally going to do something about the damp which is clearly a serious problem with the property. The bad news is that the temporary decant is not suitable for you and your daughter.

Can you please tell me which Housing Association you are with and what time scale have they given you for the move?

I am with A2 dominion. They have not contacted me about anything this week as they said they would i was told i would hear back early this week. I am supposed to be given a list of the repairs of which i can view exactly what they are and then whether a decant is still necessary. Its all a bit ridiculous communication wise has been the whole way along. I have the environmental health coming to visit on the 14th of may so if they have not informed m before then, she will go down the lines of issuing a notice for works outstanding etc. I am not sure what else can really do. They really do not seem to care about their tenants which begs the question as to how they can win an award at the which housing awards.

Good luck for the 14th with Environmental Health. In the mean time, I would suggest you contact Shelter:

All the best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

Well i have now had a reply from my housing. I am expected to move out of my property for 2 weeks. The proposed works are to put in a thermal insulated wall in one of the rooms which is already small hence the post on room size lol. There is also another proposal on for injection into the dpc in the front room. Works are considered messy and due to the size of the property a decant was thought the better option. There is also an issue of damo at lower levels in the bathroom which my housing association have said is in the surveyors opinion due to splashing!! He recommends a shower curtain what an absolute prat!! i have a shower curtain i have always had one in his picture he took he took it at such an angle you could not see the rail or the curtain. I do not use the shower as the fitment holding it is broken so it just rests between the taps. he took this as the shower is not working no even if it is not practical to shower due to the angle (hard to explain unless u see it). They have said to me that i need to be a bit more flexible in the temporary move as they do not own properties near my daughters school. I don’t drive my eldest daughter absolute hates change this will be an absolute nightmare for her. I have tried to explain that to them 2 weeks is not a big thing and yes to your average person its not but to her routine is everything. I will have to manage this and this will continue for months after in a behavioural change which is not fare on her and on me who has to manage it yet i am supposed to be flexible. The works need doing however i still think they are mealy skirting round the issues and have been since the previous tenant. I have spoken to shelter about this on many occasions and i find myself to be in a catch 22 situation to actually fight this i would have to pay a solicitor as it cant be done on legal aid. I cant afford a solicitor so i have gone as far as i can go within the remit of all of this. Going through all the complaints procedure, going to environmental health going to the housing ombudsman and so on and so forth. I feel so angry with all of this. We came to this property under difficult circumstances and this was supposed to be a fresh start for us all but it has been pure hell.

Hi,

i am also with A2 Dominion and I’ve also had a leak for seven years now and three weeks ago the leak had actually caused my flat to burn Down completely, I walked out of that house in just my Pajamas a whole ten years gone up in flames I’m still in shock and so upset luckily my children were not there, the fire started because they fitted a faulty heater in the front room and it exploded, they have decanted me and put me and my boys in a hotel they have actually said I have to go back to the flat once they have repaired it but I’m terrified and so are my kids does anyone know if I can get a permanent move?
