Letting Agent Not Acting Correctly

I have used a reputable (I thought) letting agent for the past five years for my flat in the UK. I live in Australia at the moment. The same tenant for 5 years has now moved out because I am selling it. It appears that the tenant has altered, changed and caused some substantial damage to the flat. For instance: painted a lovely timber lime washed kitchen white (only 7 years old), it looks awful! Knocked a hole through a wall in the kitchen to the living area, to obtain a sea view! Attached cupboards/units to walls but removed when leaving, marks and damage all through. Taken all curtains and poles and other items. There are many other things changed, altered, or damaged but too many to list! It now appears that the letting agent has not carried out their required periodic inspections of the property for 5 years! I have an agreement with the agent, and the tenant signed the necessary paperwork not to make changes, or damage etc. Where do I stand? I have paid a monthly letting fee for the past 5 years and always paid for repairs to the property when asked. Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated! Cheers
