Hi, my hothe water went last night at half 9 and I notified my landlord as soon as I noticed I have still not had a response 15hours later about when it will be sorted. I am concerned because I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old baby. How long should I go without hot water.

Thanks you

Hi Jenny

In the eyes of the law as long as you have access to an electric kettle and/or a functioning cooker/hob you still have access to hot water. Especially when it comes to the needs of small children.

However, your Landlord is legally onbliged to maintain the property and heating and hot water is essential- even in Summer.

I advise contacting him and insisting that an engineer attends within 48 hours or you will report the matter to the Environmental Health dept of your local council. You should also ensure that any works are undertaken asap and no more than 7 days from the engineers visit.

Hope that helps.
