hi, we have just left a property with wooden worktop which had to be oiled monthly. We did that but the inventory clerk claims that we didn’t, and that around the sink it is dry. They are charging £85 for sanding/oiling. They charged the last tenant too.

On check in it was grey around the sink and to us looks no different now.

Are we or they likely to win in the event of a dispute?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sam,

Such maintenance usually falls on a Landlord. What is more, it would be very hard for them to prove whether or not you did it monthly.

I would dispute this as I dont think this would be a successful claim.

Hope that helps.
