Various benefits are being replaced by one umbrella benefit called Universal Credit. There are two maximum weekly limits people can receive depending on whether you are single or have a partner and family. The benefits cap is part of this new benefit as it basically reduces the amount people can receive each week. The maximum amounts are £350 for a single person and £500 for a couple with children.
