Q: Is there nothing I can do if my landlord insists my home is worth a higher rent?

Your landlord may be right or wrong. If your rent is being increased by a significant amount then it might not be worth it. Perhaps your landlord is banking on you not being prepared to move. Shop around; see if there are similar properties in your neighbourhood going cheaper. You might want to consider making a short move. Alternatively, you might want to have a polite discussion with your landlord who may simply be mistaken about the market value of the property and be surprised to hear about other cheaper rents.
